THE Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) has turned second chances into inspiring life changing success stories by equipping ex inmates cooperatives with equipment necessary for their new start to better their lives.
According to Zambia Correctional Service, 77 cooperatives run by former inmates have been empowered by the service.
ZCS donated equipment to help former inmates to build better lives, driving the rehabilitation and transformation agenda as they integrate into society.
A number of these cooperatives are venturing into agriculture, a move that is creating jobs, promoting self-reliance as well as helping ex-inmates to contribute meaningfully to their community’s households.
During a handover ceremony, ZCS director of extension services, Auxilia Chishimba, presented vital equipment including industrial sewing machines, cutting machines, and steam irons to Noah Mulwanda, a former inmate who is currently leading one of the beneficiary cooperatives.
As it stands, six ex- inmates have received individual empowerment with each representing a success story of hope and real change.
Among the beneficiaries is the Arise Again Cooperative in Lusaka’s Kamwala township which recently received over 250 chicks and feed to scale up its poultry business.
