THE Technical Committee on Constitutional Amendments has revealed that a draft constitution, shaped by extensive nationwide feedback, will be submitted to government before the end of November.
Committee chairperson retired Supreme Court judge Christopher Mushabati described the response from citizens as overwhelming, highlighting that people from every province contributed ideas, proposals and concerns.
Mushabati said the volume and depth of participation reflect the public’s strong interest in Zambia’s future governance.
He was speaking when he addressed journalists in Lusaka yesterday, following the conclusion of countrywide sittings.
“From traditional leaders to local communities, Zambians have shown remarkable dedication to shaping the framework that will guide our country for generations,” Mushabati said.
He noted that while some individuals opted not to participate, the committee respects these choices as part of a healthy democratic process.
“The constitution-making process has been undertaken in a cost-effective and timely manner, in line with its mandate.”
And Committee Vice Chairperson Dr Landilani Banda acknowledged minor challenges during the consultations but stated that they were resolved amicably with the support of local authorities and institutions.
The committee is now consolidating all submissions into a comprehensive draft that captures the diversity of views across the nation.
