A LOCAL football tournament in Chawama has breathed new life into the community, with scores of young people taking to the pitch to showcase their talent in the Chawama Togetherness Tournament, an initiative to promote grassroots football and empowering the youth through sport.
Sponsored by Chawama aspiring parliamentary candidate Nonde Sikasote, the tournament was set up with the aim of giving youths a positive platform where they can use their talents meaningfully and stay away from negative influences.
The tournament, which featured local teams and drew large crowds to Chawama grounds, provided a platform for young players to showcase their talent while encouraging positive engagement among residents.

Speaking to #Kalemba, Sikasote said the initiative was part of his broader efforts to support youth development through sport and create opportunities for growth in the community.
“This is part of the efforts to promote grassroots football and empower our youths in the communities of Chawama,” he said.
“Such activities help to bring people together and offer young people better options in life.”
The aspiring lawmaker explained that Chawama not only has uncovered promising talent but also shown how sport can be a powerful tool for unity and change in communities often overlooked in formal development programmes.
The tournament has been running for weeks with several teams competing for glory, however Masasu FC and Shining Stars FC proved to be the strongest contenders.
The final match of the tournament saw yesterday Masasu FC beat Shining Stars FC 2-1 in a closely contested encounter, marking the end of one of the most exciting and impactful sports events held in Chawama in recent years.
