Nkeyema villagers award killer of 3 women permanent life retirement

A VIOLENT man of Nkeyema District has met a gruesome end after his stabbing spree left three women dead before angry residents caught up with him and delivered a fatal beating securing his plot six feet below the ground.

The suspect, whose identity is yet to be officially confirmed, reportedly began his rampage early Sunday morning, targeting women walking in the Kalapo area and nearby Siluwe Village.

According to police, the first victim, 65-year-old Charity Masiye Mukubesa, was walking to her usual morning destination when the man approached her and attacked with a knife, inflicting deep cuts to the left side of her neck, back of the neck and upper arm, killing her instantly.

Moments later, 38-year-old Namonda Silumesi, carrying her three-year-old baby strapped to her back and holding the hand of her five-year-old son, was confronted by the same man.

Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said the attacker stabbed Silumesi multiple times across the head, neck, chest and shoulders.

“The mother was found lying lifeless while her baby, still strapped on her back, was covered in blood but alive,” Hamoonga said.

The rampage continued into Siluwe Village, where the suspect entered the home of 103-year-old Namiye Mukanwa, inflicting a deep cut below the left eye, a cut on the right cheek and a fractured lower jaw, killing her on the spot.

Police officers recovered a knife believed to have been used in the attacks near the first victim.

The suspect fled towards Namimbwe area, where he attempted another attack.

By then, residents had been alerted and quickly caught up with him, subjecting him to a brutal beating that ultimately ended his life before law enforcement could intervene.

Hamoonga confirmed that four inquiry files have been opened in respect of the deceased and investigations into the incident are ongoing.

“The Zambia Police Service appeals to the public to remain calm and allow police to handle such matters instead of taking the law into their own hands,” Hamoonga added.

Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the shocking series of attacks that unfolded in under an hour.
