SENIOR chief Mwata Kazembe of the Lunda people of Mwansabombwe district in Luapula Province has sternly cautioned against wearing of political party attire or regalia during this year’s Mutomboka ceremony, emphasising that the cultural celebration must not be marred by partisan rhetoric or division.
In a statement issued from the Royal Palace ahead of the annual ceremony this Saturday, Mwatakazembe invoked the sanctity of the Mutomboka ceremony, underscoring its significance as a unifying force that promotes harmony, peace and cultural pride among Zambians.
He stressed the need for Zambians to honour the ceremony’s rich history and uphold its sacred nature by refraining from partisan displays.
“To honour this principle, I hereby declare that no political party regalia or attire bearing divisive symbols shall be permitted during the festivities,” said Mwata Kazembe in the statement issued by his spokesperson, David Chifwele.
He declared that the ceremony is not just a festival but a scared tradition that binds the community together and connects everyone to their ancestors.
“As your Mwata, it is my solemn responsibility to ensure that this tradition is maintained with dignity and respect, while also ensuring that everyone who wishes to partake in its celebration feels welcome and included,” the statement read.
The traditional leader implored all attendees to don their finest traditional attire, whether they belong to the Lunda kingdom, other neighboring chiefdoms or hailed from beyond Zambian borders.
Mwatakazembe further urged attendees to embrace their differences while standing together as a united nation.
