A MASAITI woman, is using every little step she makes to travel a thousand kilometers away from poverty into a successful future, thanks to Government’s empowerment programme for vulnerable women who are able to turn the tables around once given a push.
Roster Mumba, a member of the Kasabwa Savings Group, received a K15,000 productivity grant from the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services’ Supporting Women Livelihoods (SWL) programme.
Unlike Lusaka slay queens, who might have used all the funds for fancy Peruvian or Brazilian weave, and later cry to a blessed for more food money to fill their stomachs the following day, Mumba used wisdom to utilise the funds and purchased a motorcycle.
The motorbike, now serves as the foundation of her business, generating K800 daily from a transportation business she established.
“I started a transportation business within Masaiti, and it’s able to generate K800 daily,” Mumba said.
Mumba said her income has significantly improved her family’s financial situation, enabling her to provide food and household essentials.
Furthermore, Mumba noted that she is using a portion of her profits to pay for her grade eight child’s school fees in boarding.
Mumba’s steady growth indicates how steady growth, coupled with focus and financial literacy can contribute to empowering households in being viable members of the community, contributing to the Zambia’s economic growth.
