Lundazi wife returns home to lifeless hubby hanging on a tree

A LUNDAZI wife who went to visit her relatives while here husband was left home alone has returned to her matrimonial residence to a scene that would haunt any spouse after seeing her husband hanging lifeless from a tree in front of their house.

The incident happened in the early hours of Tuesday, at Kayamba Village, near Nyangwe Secondary School in Chief Mwase’s area, Lundazi District.

According to Eastern Province police commissioner Robertson Mweemba, 43 year old Felisiyani Nyirenda was found dead by his elder brother, Dama Nyirenda, who reported the matter to Gumbilwe Police Post around 09:30 hours on Wednesday.

The day before, Felisiyani had appeared well and in good health, with nothing to suggest what he was planning.

But while the village was still asleep, Felisiyani is believed to have taken his own life by hanging himself on a tree just outside his home.

A plastic chair was found next to the tree, along with a two metre rope tied tightly around his neck, with his tongue protruding.

Police officers who rushed to the scene confirmed there were no physical injuries on his body and no signs of a struggle.

The deceased had been staying alone at the time, as his wife had travelled to visit family.

Mweemba confirmed the incident and that police have since opened an inquiry file.
