A 35 year old woman in Luanshya has been arrested for allegedly sexually abusing her neighbour’s 15 year old daughter for several months now.
The suspect, identified as Misozi Banda of Mikomfwa Township, was arrested after the victim’s mother noticed worrying changes in her daughter’s behaviour, changes that turned out to be signs of ongoing abuse.
According to police, between May and October 24, 2025 on different occasions, the girl, a Form One pupil at a named secondary school in Luanshya, had reportedly been spending time with Banda, who later began abusing her sexually by insernting fingers into the little girl’s private part.
Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Pathias Siadenge confirmed the case, saying the abuse was uncovered after the mother noticed her daughter’s strange habits.
The teenager then confessed that Banda had been sexually abusing her.
She explained that the woman would kiss her, lick her private parts and insert fingers into her vagina, acts that had been going on for months.
“The mother observed that her daughter had started coming home drunk, smelling of cigarettes, and sometimes spending nights away from home. Concerned, she decided to confront her daughter,” Siadenge said.
The mother quickly went to the Victim Support Unit (VSU) at Luanshya Central Police Station to report the matter.
Police officers later interviewed the girl, who confirmed her account and led them to the suspect’s residence where the suspect was then apprehended and placed in custody.
“The suspect has since been detained at Luanshya Central Police Station and is awaiting court appearance,” Siadenge said.
The victim is currently receiving medical and psychological support as investigations continue.
Police have since urged the public to report any suspected cases of abuse immediately to protect minors from predators hiding in plain sight.
