AN Assistant accountant at the Livingstone City Council has been arrested after allegedly swapping professionalism for street-smart tactics, pulling off a bold stunt that saw a total of K316,000 of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) disappear under his nose.
Instead of guarding public funds, 35-year-old Sydney Silwimba reportedly flexed his “ba Matero skills,” landing himself in serious trouble with the law.
Silwimba was apprehended on August 22, 2025, after managing to evade the authorities for over two months, following the initial report filed on June 6, 2025.
Southern province police commanding officer Auxesio Daka confirmed the arrest.
Daka revealed that Silwimba now faces charges a related to the misappropriation of K316,000, money that was earmarked to support CDF empowerment programs.
“The suspect has been officially charged and arrested on September 7, 2025 for eleven counts of fraudulent false accounting and eleven counts of theft by public servant,” Daka said.
He further warned all officials responsible for managing public funds in the provinces that any misuse or diversion of such resources will not go unpunished as thorough investigations will follow, and those found guilty will face the full force of the law.
