it is reported that the fire that claimed the 10 and 5 year old has been linked to a brazier that was left unattended to by the children’s mother, who had temporarily stepped away to attend to duties at a charcoal kiln.

The incident occurred yesterday at around 11:00 hours in Kapiri Mposhi’s Lwamamwe area.

According to reports, the two victims and the mother, Cynthia Nakamba, had embarked on a journey from Soweto compound to Lwamabwe area earlier this month of August 2025, for the purpose of purchasing charcoal.

Upon reaching their destination, Nakamba could leave her children in the grass-thatched shelter while she attended to the task of packing the charcoal into bags.

Central Province police commanding officer Charity Munganga revealed that on that fateful day around 09:00 hours, the mother left her two children in the makeshift shelter with a brazier lit, while she went to pack the bags of charcoal.

It was only two hours later that the mother got to find out that a fire had engulfed the shelter, trapping her children inside.

Munganga stated that in the aftermath of the devastating inferno, the mother reportedly filed a report with the Kapiri Mposhi Police Station, alerting authorities to the tragedy that had befallen her family.

“Police visited the scene and found two victims of fire which were burnt beyond recognition and no foul play is suspected,” she stated.

The two bodies have since been deposited at Kapiri Mposhi Urban Clinic mortuary awaiting postmortem and burial.
