Kalomo baby dies abandoned on Great North Road

POLICE in Kalomo District have launched investigations into a suspected case of infanticide after the body of a baby boy was discovered dumped near the Great North Road.

The heartbreaking discovery was made by 41-year-old Mavis Mutakela of Kalomo Boma Compound, who was walking home on Tuesday morning when she spotted the abandoned child.

Police say the suspected infanticide happened between Monday evening and early Tuesday morning.

Officers who rushed to the scene found the baby’s tiny body abandoned by an unknown person believed to have given birth elsewhere before leaving him to die.

Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka confirmed the incident, revealing that the infant’s body has since been taken to Kalomo Urban Clinic mortuary for a postmortem before burial.

“A docket of case has been opened, and investigations have been launched to bring the culprit to book,” stated Daka.
