Government completes CDF funded Kapupu Health Centre in Isansa Ward

THE people of Kapupu Village in Luwingu District no longer have to trek long distances to access medical services after Government completed the construction of a new health centre under the Constituency Development Fund (CDF).

The facility, built at a cost of K1.2 million from the 2024 CDF allocation, is the first ever modern health centre in Isansa Ward and is expected to serve over 15,000 residents.

Luwingu council chairperson Rodericks Mulenga, who toured the facility in the company of district commissioner Chomba Chileshe and members of the CDF Committee, said the project was a clear demonstration of Government’s commitment to delivering healthcare services closer to the people.

Mulenga added that the impact of the new facility would be felt far beyond Kapupu Village itself.

The Council chairperson further noted that the project stood as an example of good workmanship that should be emulated in other CDF projects.

“When we talk about quality works, this is what we are talking about and really witnessing. We are satisfied and just waiting for a few touches to be completed so that commissioning can be done,” Mulenga said.

And, district health services director, Joseph Mwansa, said the new centre will ease congestion at nearby health posts and help reduce maternal deaths, HIV/AIDS cases and other preventable illnesses.

Dr Mwansa noted that expectant mothers would now deliver in safer conditions rather than at home or along the road.

“This is going to benefit the majority of people here as people move about 15 kilometres to 20 kilometres away from this place. And for our expecting mothers it’s going to be a game changer because we don’t want issues of delivering from home,” he said.

Meanwhile, for residents like Idah Mwape, the development is life-changing.

Mwape recalled how some pregnant women in the area were forced to give birth on the way to health facilities because of the long distances they had to walk.

She described the new centre as a blessing that would save lives.

With the completion of the Kapupu Health Centre, the community now looks forward to improved healthcare delivery and a new chapter in their local development.
