FIRST Lady Mutinta Hichilema, has donated essential medical and food supplies to Lewanika General Hospital in Mongu.

The supplies included 69 mattresses, 100 bags of 25kg mealie meal, 60 bales of sugar, 70 cases of cooking oil, 60 bags of 10kg rice, 58 blankets, and 80 sewing machines.
Technical advisor from the First Lady’s office Charity Kapala, handed over the donation which is intended to support public health and empower vulnerable communities in the region.
According to Kapala, the gesture represents the First Lady’s commitment to the well-being of the people of Western Province.
She stated that the hospital supplies would help with patient recovery while the sewing machines would promote self-reliance among women and youth.
Western Province minister Kapelwa Mbangweta described the donation as timely and impactful, noting that it would help the hospital address its resource challenges.
He praised government for its improvements in the health sector, including increased drug availability, the recruitment of health workers, and the delivery of new equipment.
Lewanika General Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr Samutumwa Njekwa expressed gratitude for the donation.
He said the items would help ease the pressure on the hospital’s facilities and pledged that they would be used to help the intended beneficiaries.
