A 17 year old girl from Choma, who has a hearing and speaking impairment has come out of the closet that her family reportedly put her in, revealing to her teacher that her father sexually abused her.
It is reported that driven by drunkenness and a shocking disregard for his daughter’s well-being, the father ignored his daughter’s vulnerability and proceeded to sexually assault her, taking advantage of her inability to communicate or resist.
The incident occurred between April 28, 2025, at 18:00 hours and April 29, 2025, at 04:00 hours at Mangunza Village, Chief Mapanza, Choma District.
According to Southern Province police commanding officer Auxensio Daka, the tragic sequence of events unfolded when the victim’s father returned home in a drunken state.
Daka revealed that under the influence of alcohol, the father entered his daughter’s room and proceeded to sexually abuse her.
Horrified by what had transpired, the survivor confided in her mother, who is currently deceased.
The traumatised daughter then turned to her grandmother, who, in an attempt to protect the family’s reputation, advised her to remain silent about the incident.
After suffering in silence for an undisclosed period of time, the victim, burdened by the painful memories of the abuse finally found courage to disclose the incident to her guidance and safety teacher.
Recognising the severity of the situation, the teacher promptly escorted the victim to the victim support unit of the Choma central police station, where a formal report was made.
“No arrest has been made yet. Investigations into the matter are ongoing,” Daka revealed.
