A QUIET afternoon in Mikata village of Kalomo district turned into a dark memory for an 11-year-old girl who returned home with more than just water in her bucket but returned carrying the trauma of abuse.
This led to authorities in Choma to launch a manhunt for a 27 year old village rogue only known as Dongo, hailing from Namakumba Village,.
Dongo is accused of defiling the minor in the bushes of Mikata in Chief Chikanta’s area.
The incident happened on Friday around 15:00 hours as the girl was walking home alone after fetching water.
As fate would have it, she crossed paths with Dongo, who reportedly dragged her into the bush and defiled her.
Following the incident, the young girl’s mother saw her daughter returning with dusty clothes and a disturbed face.
Sensing something was off, she questioned her child, and that’s when the minor, in her innocence, revealed the horrors she had just endured at the hands of the heartless Dongo.
The matter was reported to Choma Central Police Station yesterday at exactly 11:40 hours by the girl’s father, who could barely contain his rage and heartbreak.
Southern Province deputy police commissioner Moono Namalongo confirmed the incident.
“A docket of case has been opened. No arrest has been made yet, and investigations are ongoing,” Namalongo stated.
Police are currently on Dongo’s trail while the girl is receiving medical and emotional care.
