A 29-year-old man in Chief Kambombo of Chama District has reportedly decided to give up in playing referee in the fighting arena of his two wives over who will farm at a particular time and chose to end his life.

Christopher Mwandila of Lukombozi Compound allegedly took his own life after a dispute with his two wives over garden work shifts
According to Eastern Province police commissioner Robertson Mweemba, the incident occurred on July 21, 2025, around 09:30 hours.
Mweemba stated that Mwandila had been involved in a marital dispute with his two wives, Jane Nkhowani and Memory Kakwende, for two days concerning the garden work shifts.
“On the day of the incident, around 06:00 hours, Mr. Mwandila called his uncle, Jonathan Botha, and revealed that he had consumed maize preservative tablets to end his life due to the marital disputes with his wives,” Mweemba said.
Botha rushed to Mwandila’s house and found him unconscious.
Mwandila was quickly transported to Chama District Hospital for medical attention, but he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The body has since been deposited into the Chama District Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a postmortem examination and burial.
An inquiry file has been opened by authorities to determine the specific factors that led to the deceased’s choice of joining his ancestors early.
