The victims, aged between 18 and 25, were reportedly lured from Mongu to the capital with promises of employment.

According to police, one of the victims, a 22-year-old woman, was contacted via Facebook by an individual claiming to secure jobs in Lusaka.

She later involved three friends, who accepted the same offer.

On arrival in Lusaka on Friday, the women were reportedly taken to a fenced property in Chalala, where their National Registration Cards were confiscated and they were locked inside.

The suspect then allegedly abandoned them.

Through swift action and coordination between Mongu Central Police, the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit and Lusaka Division CID, the victims were rescued yesterday.

They have since been taken to a safe house in Lusaka and are receiving support.

So far, no arrests have been made, but investigations are ongoing.

Commissioner of Police for Western Province, Rae Hamoonga confirmed the incident and urged the public to exercise caution when dealing with online job offers.

“The Zambia Police Service strongly warns members of the public, especially young women and job seekers, to be cautious of online job offers and social media recruitment schemes that appear too good to be true,” Hamoonga stated.
