A MAZABUKA police officer is currently on a hospital bed nursing injuries and jabbing on all types of painkillers for severe body pains and a toothache after a group of three men gang beat him on his way home from work and ripped his combat uniform to shreds.
According to Southern Province police commissioner Auxensio Daka, Constable Eric Kalela of Changa Changa Compound in Mazabuka was treated to slaps as hot as the Livingstone sun in October, followed by punches and kicks, minutes after completing his night shift at Mazabuka Central Police Station.
It is reported that the three men did not only give him slaps but also robbed him of his black Samsung A11 cellphone which he bought at K4,000.
The robbers also transported the cop to the garden of Eden and turned him into Adam and Eve, ripping off his combat uniform to shreds that can be used on a Ngoni impi’s attire.
“The victim sustained multiple bruises on the face, a swollen head, a cut on the right ear, bruises on both hands, and general body pains, as unknown objects were used to inflict the injuries,” revealed Daka.
“This occurred on October 25, 2025, between 00:30 hours and 06:00 hours, near St. Edmund’s Secondary School, Mazabuka Town.”
According to Daka, the police officer reported for work at 16:00 hours and left around 00:00 hours after his shift ended.
Instead of waiting for sunrise, constable Eric decided to go home alone in the dark.
“Later, around 06:00 hours, the victim was found at the scene injured and weak by Mr. Cissy Simataa, aged 30, and Mr. Lemmy Katiba, aged 34, both of Changa Changa Compound.”
“They assisted him to Mazabuka Police Station, where the matter was reported, before he was rushed to Mazabuka General Hospital, where he is admitted in a stable condition,” he said.
The police are now investigating the matter in order to bring the culprits to book.
