MBALA – President Hakainde Hichilema yesterday braved the rains before inspecting the guard on parade and inducting 29 commissioned officers and one regular soldier of Zambia Army as Special Forces operatives.
Special Forces, who came into existence in 1983, necessitated by Adamson Mushala, are normally reserved by Zambia Army for special missions and tasks that are beyond a normal soldier.
Their first camp was in Katete, Eastern Province, where they also helped deal with threats from Mozambican rebel group Renamo before moving to Mushili in Ndola.
Their training school in Mbala is something special, thanks to its geographical features. It is said that about 40 percent of the men (never mind the women) who dare enter the training school never get to wear the maroon beret.
President Hichilema urged the inducted Special Forces personnel to exercise high levels of discipline and professionalism.
He said the country expects a dedicated and disciplined defence force which is ready to serve the country with dignity.
The Commander-in-Chief also urged the Special Forces to help in the maintenance of peace in the nation, region and the world as a whole.
President Hichilema pledged Government’s commitment to continue supporting the training of Special Forces.
