Young Choma lawyer to rep Zambia for Miss Universal Woman in India

IN a country where some models have turned into ‘view once ambassadors’ for fame, a 23 year old law graduate from Choma has taken a different path, by preparing to represent Zambia at the Miss Universal Woman pageant in India this August, without compromising her morals.

Unlike some of her fellow 2000 babies who are turning into moral decay diplomats, Lushomo Kaumba has decided to make a clean name through her love for education and humanity.

From as little as 10 years, Lushomo dreamed of becoming a voice for the voiceless. She wanted to get paid for talking and her childhood revolved around books, mirrors and bold declarations of becoming a lawyer and possibly a catwalk queen one day.

By the age of 18 in 2020, Lushomo had completed her secondary education from Njase Girls Secondary School and was ready to chase her dream at the University of Zambia’s School of Law.

Raised between different towns in the land of viral videos and repatriation drama, Lushomo’s legal journey began in 2021 when she was accepted into UNZA.

While many GCE lawyers were trying to reconsider their career choices, the girlie lawyer was already knee deep in law.

She graduated in May 2025, armed with her LLB and a desire to change lives, not just through courtroom debates but through a crown, heels and advocacy.

Eager to amplify women’s voices and promote education for vulnerable girls, the young lawyer joined the Miss Universal Woman Zambia search, where she stood out for more than her poise.

Her initiative, SheLearns, SheThrives, which focused on juvenile justice and education, caught the eyes of the judges and earned her the national crown.

“Miss Universal Woman is not just about looking pretty. It’s about presence, purpose and passion. I want to show the world that Zambian women are powerful, intelligent and proud of who we are,” she shared with Kalemba.

Preparing for the international stage has not been a walk in the park. Between her legal internship and pageant responsibilities, Lushomo has had to balance court papers with catwalk practice and advocacy scripts with makeup brushes.

“I’m reading, working out, journaling, praying and staying intentional with my time. Preparation is holistic, mental, emotional, spiritual and physical,” she said.

“My goal is to work on policies that protect juveniles, advocate for second chances and ensure no child is left behind due to circumstances beyond their control.”

And when she’s not reading case law or practicing her walk? Lushomo is a music lover, a movie junkie and a firm believer in finding joy in simple things.

Lushomo Kaumba is now Miss Universal Woman Zambia 2025 and in a few weeks, she will be strutting into India not just as a queen but as a young lawyer full of hope, intellect and authentic Zambian pride.

And to young girls watching from afar, Lushomo encouraged them not to be boxed in by stereotypes or fear.

“You can be anything. lawyer or model. advocate or artist. Don’t dim your light to fit someone else’s frame. Walk boldly in your calling,” she advised.
