ZAMBIAN hip-hop heavyweights Mwila Musonda, alias Slapdee and Ephriam Kasonde, known by his stage name Dizmo have set the music scene buzzing with the release of their new single Abo, a gritty, message driven track that serves as a preview of their upcoming collaborative EP.
Released on Friday, the song immediately drew attention on YouTube, racking up over 148,000 views within 24hours, a rare feat for a hardcore rap release.
The track’s theme centers on loyalty, struggle and the sudden attention success attracts, resonating strongly with fans.
To elevate the emotional weight of the song, the duo enlisted rising vocalist Kayz Adams, whose raw, soulful hook adds depth and intensity.
His verse, sung in authentic Chewa captures the loneliness of hardship and the irony of people flocking only after one’s breakthrough.
Dizmo on the other hand brings an aggressive open verse, firing clever punchlines and asserting his dominance in the rap game.
Known for his sharp delivery, he raps about watching careers rise and fade, declaring he has yet to meet an equal.
Meanwhile, Slapdee taps into the hunger that defined his early 2000s era.
His verse blends sharp lyricism with a renewed drive, reflecting on times when he was overlooked and contrasting them with the attention that success brings.
He also hints that he is fully back in the rap game, offering an apology to fans for his periods of silence.
However, social media erupted shortly after the release, with Slapdee posting a short clip of the video and describing the track as ‘my rebirth…my legacy.”
Industry heavyweights including Dr Mujajati, Mampi, DJ Pressure PMC, Jae Cash and DJ Mzengaman quickly joined the chorus of praise.
