ZAMBIA’S lyrical beast Jemax, has come out to publicly express disappointment with music streaming platform Boomplay for allegedly chewing his hard-earned streaming revenue without spitting back a ngwee for his Boogeyman album.
Taking to social media, the ‘Mpawi’ hitmaker revealed that despite his album clocking over 50 million streams on Boomplay, his bank account has remained as dry as his patience.
The award-winning rapper whose real name is James Kavimba, shared how he and his team have repeatedly knocked on Boomplay’s doors through emails and formal queries but have received nothing beyond cold silence and dashed hopes.
“I’m disappointed with Boomplay. After getting over 50 million streams on the platform for my Boogeyman album, I have never gotten any payment,” Jemax vented in a statement.
The Kabwe-raised lyricist has since called upon the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM), the National Arts Council (NAC), and the Ministry of Arts to step in and demand transparency and accountability from music streaming platforms operating in Zambia.
He further bemoaned the disturbing trend where many other artists are reportedly owed large sums by Boomplay, yet their cries remain ignored in a system that continues to profit from their art.
“This is not just about me, most artists are being owed hefty amounts of money by Boomplay, yet no one has been given a valid excuse,” Jemax complained.
As his fans continue vibing to the Boogeyman tracks, Jemax says it is time for the industry to wake up and demand what is due because artists after all do not eat streams.
