A JEHOVAH’S Witness freelance journalist has couriered his wife to court for drowning him in a tsunami of Chisokone market insults in front of their three children.
Francis Mulenda, 38, abandoned knocking on people’s doors to share the word and distribute The Watchtower and Awake! literature to teach his 35 year old wife Charity Mwanza a lesson by demanding compensation for her insults in court.
Mulenda told the Matero Local court that the couple had utilised the Civic Centre to seal their union over a decade ago but have been on separation for two years and since their separation, his wife had become an ‘evangelist of insults.’
Like a Kingdom Hall member and a rosary wearing individual, the duo do not see eye to eye despite the husband’s alleged countless attempts to bring his wife back to their matrimonial home.
“In the presence of the children she calls me a rapist, galu iwe (you dog). The children have even stopped giving me respect,” lamented Mulenda.
He also accused Charity of leaving their children in his care when she moved out.
The wife, on the other hand told the court that it was not true that she insulted him but that the two only fought over the custody of children.
“He wants to be the one with the children but I can’t allow that because the children are small,” she said.
She also told the court that Mulenda’s chances of entering paradise were slim as the Zambia National Team’s chance of winning the AFCON as he had already been enjoying another woman’s sweet fruit in their matrimonial home.
“I don’t know if he’s married or not because every time I go to get the kids I find him with a woman whom he introduces to the kids as their mum,” she said with tears in her eyes.
Instead of looking for events to get K200 refunds, Mulenda was in court trying to make his beautiful wife pay for purported bus conductor insults.
When asked if she could take him back, Charity said she was willing to return only if Mulenda agreed to shift from their Kabana house to somewhere far from in-laws who she claimed usually interfere with their marriage.
She said Mulenda has however, refused to shift, stating that he can’t start renting when he has built a house of his own.
“I have told him to put tenants in the house but he refuses to shift. I can only go back if he agrees to move,” she said.
When asked if Mulenda still loved the wife like Christ loved the church, he responded in the affirmative.
“I have requested her to come back home several times but she keeps insisting to divorce. I still want her and she knows it,” he said.
Magistrate Lewis Mumba dismissed the case as trivial, taking Mulenda back to journalism school where he learnt about trivial matters in the Media Law and Ethics course.
Magistrate Mumba told Mulenda that no husband takes their wife to court over insults.
“You are a journalist. What does trivial matters mean? Not serious, useless. The Court doesn’t tolerate such. You can’t bring your wife for insults. You are wasting court’s time. This is your wife and the court doesn’t believe in insults when you are married,” said magistrate Mumba.
He also lectured him about the Ten Commandments Bible verse in Exodus 20:14 which says “do not commit adultery.”
“It’s a mistake to bring your girlfriend home and when your wife is upset, she’s allowed to talk. So go home and talk, if she insists to divorce then go to the higher court,” he said.
