A MEAL of nshima with pumpkin leaves, which are locally known as ‘Chibwabwa’, has ended a Zambian musician’s marriage.
Rexious Muzik, who is a 40-year old upcoming singer behind the not-so-popular song called ‘No Retreat-No Surrender,’ has been forced to retreat to celibacy and surrender his marriage, which is barely a year old, on grounds that his wife, Caroline Mongeza, attempted to accelerate his journey to become an ancestor by adding yellowish poisonous substances to his beloved chibwabwa meal.
In court testimony, the singer alleged that apart from trying to posion him, his wife was also in the habit of slapping the melodies out of his square-shaped head due to her violent temperament, which perhaps explains his failure to make breakthrough in the music business and drop the shame of being a mere upcoming artist despite his advanced age.
“My wife has been violent and anytime I tried explaining, she would give me slaps. She reached an extent of preparing me chibwabwa one day, only to add something that looked like spices. Then I knew she was after my life and tried to send me to an early grave,” he complained to the court presided over by Local Court Magistrate Harriet Mulenga.
However, in her defense, his wife, Caroline, said that their marriage was on the proverbial rocks due to her musician husband’s behavior of rewarding his four dancing queens with strokes of adult pleasure in lodges and complimenting them on their flexible waists on stage and in bed, even in her presence.
On the poisoned chibwabwa saga, she denied lacing the food with poison, saying she merely flavored the chibwabwa with the usual yellow flowers that the plant produces, on account of the fact that her husband was unable to provide money for Raja Curry, Bistol, or other spices..
Further, that meat was a distant rumour in their home owing to Rexious’ failure to take care of their home hence resorting to the vegetable whose soup is notorious for breaking lumps of nshima into pieces.
After hearing both sides, Magistrate Mulenga that noted the couple were childish and bickering over petty issues which showed that they were not serious with their marriage. She proceeded to end the union ordered Rexious to be paying his now ex-wife K1500 per month as child maintenance.
