Social Media creator denies harassing journalist

JAILED social media content creator Elias Musyani has pleaded not guilty to charges of harassing a journalist via electronic communication on the “High Profile Official” Facebook page.

Musyani, who was found guilty of two counts of Harassing celebrity wife of Yo Maps, Kidist Kifle, while utilising means of electronic communication, under Section 69 of the Cyber Security and Cyber Crimes Act, No. 2 of 2021 of the Laws of Zambia, is serving a six months sentence.

Currently he is jointly charged with Stephen Nyirenda, an administrator for the same page aforementioned.

The two appeared before Magistrate Idah Phiri, where State prosecutor Lewis Loti confirmed the State was ready to proceed with the case.

Both Musyani and Nyirenda stated they understood the charges and entered pleas of not guilty.

According to court records, Musyani and Nyirenda are accused of initiating an electronic communication on the “High Profile Official” Facebook page on February 7, 2025, with the intent to coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause emotional distress to journalist Lucy Shawa.

The charge falls under Section 69 of Zambia’s Cyber Security Crimes Act 2 of 2021.

In separate counts, Nyirenda faces additional charges, including possession of obscene materials.

He is alleged to have had obscene photographs tending to corrupt morals in his possession between February 7 and March 24, 2025.

Nyirenda is also accused of another instance of electronic harassment.

On February 28, 2025, he allegedly used a computer system to intentionally initiate an electronic communication on the “High Profile Official” Facebook page, intending to coerce, intimidate, harass, or cause emotional distress to Rebecca Chimuka.

The posting in question read: “this is my husband[‘s] side[chick], am going through a lot because of her and am pregnant, I want to expose this hule.”

Magistrate Phiri adjourned the matter to September 4, 2025, for the commencement of trial.
