Zambia finished second in Group A and separated from the summit by nothing but a single goal.
In a tense final group clash last night, the Copper Queens edged DR Congo 1-0, courtesy of a 9th-minute stunner from Racheal Kundananji, who blasted in a precise free kick to give Zambia the edge and her second Woman of the Match award in the tournament.
The result sends DR Congo crashing out of the tournament without a single win, while Senegal, who finished third in the group, are now left chewing their nails as they await results from other groups, hoping to sneak into the quarters as one of the two best third-placed teams.

Following the qualification, praises from the nation could not contain the internet with the Zambian President spearheading the chorus with a Kwenyu, marking the Zambia’s superb performance.
Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) president Keith Mweemba, urged the team to remain focused and sustain the momentum as they prepare to meet the winners of Group B.
Nigeria sits on the top of Group B with 6 points in two games, a draw or a will in today’s clash against Algeria will help them maintain the group leadership while a Win from Algeria could also topple them.
“We have achieved our first target at the tournament which was getting out of the group. Everyone knows what our ultimate target is at this tournament but we have to move step by step,” said Mweemba.
Meanwhile, the FAZ boss also extended congratulations to the Zambia U-17 men’s national team who are representing the U-20 squad, for winning bronze at the Region V Games COSAFA currently underway in Namibia.
