PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has appointed Council of Churches in Zambia (CCZ) general secretary, Fr. Emmanuel Chikoya, to serve as one of the new commissioners on the Human Rights Commission (HRC) board.
The announcement was made through a statement by State House Chief Communication Specialist Clayson Hamasaka, indicating that the appointments are in accordance with Section 7(1) of the Human Rights Commission Act No. 4 of 2024.
The newly reconstituted board is set to be chaired by Dr. Pamela Sambo, with Dr. Felicity Kalunga named as deputy chairperson.
Other commissioners appointed alongside Fr. Chikoya include prominent human rights activist Laura Miti, Panic Chilufya, Fr. Joe Komakoma and veteran human rights advocate Fred Waliuya.
The appointments are subject to ratification by the National Assembly.
President Hichilema congratulated the appointees and urged them to uphold the values of integrity, dedication and unwavering commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights in Zambia.
