Hamoonga asks magistrate to settle his swindling case outside court

Zambia Police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga has asked the Lusaka Magistrates Court to settle the matter in which he was allegedly swindled out of more than K150,000 cash meant to buy 72 cattle outside court.

In this matter, Cryford Chuuba pleaded not guilty to Obtaining Money by False Pretence Contrary to Section 309 of the Penal Code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

It is alleged that Chuuba on unknown dates but between December 3 and December 8, 2024 in Lusaka, jointly and whilst acting together with other person unknown, with intent to defraud obtained k159, 550.00 cash from Rae Simalambo Hamoonga by falsely pretending he had 73 cattle for sale when infact not.

When the matter came up for commencement of trial this morning before resident magistrate, Amy Masoja Chilangwa, state prosecutor Brian Siayengo informed the court that there was an arrangement to settle the matter outside court.

“Once the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) consents, we will make an appropriate application. For today, we apply for an adjournment,” he said.

In response, the defence lawyer, Boniface Ngalasa confirmed the application stating that his client had instructed him to settle the matter outside court.

“The status is as given by the state. Indeed, we have been instructed by my client that the parties are considering a settlement. The conversation has actually advanced.”

“Therefore if given this one last adjournment, we believe that the parties can be able to settle,” Ngalasa submitted.

Magistrate Chilangwa adjourned the matter to August 20, 2025 awaiting for the DPP response.
