Every business I own now was birthed from make up business, Royalty urges entrepreneurs to diversify

ENTREPRENEUR Sarah Mako has urged small business owners to diversify their income streams, saying her success across multiple ventures was built from a single make up business.

Mako, popularly known as Royalty and chief executive officer of Royalty Make Up and Hair and other ventures said every business she now owns grew out of her initial venture in the beauty industry.

“I started small but I was intentional about reinvesting and rlgriwing beyond one stream of income,” she said.

Mako, who left her nursing career in 2019 to focus on entrepreneurship said diversification had been key to sustaining and expanding her business portfolio.

“If you have the capacity to diversify, please do so. This helps when one business is not performing well, as you can rely on another,” she said.

She was speaking at her Entrepreneurs Business Brunch held in Lusaka yesterday which attracted participants from across the country.

Mako also stressed the importance of networking and continuous learning among entrepreneurs.

“Networking is very important if you want to grow as a business. You need to learn from others who have gone before you and even those who are coming up,” she said.

The event drew more than 150 entrepreneurs with attendees travelling from districts including Mongu and Lundazi.

Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprise Development Permanent Secretary Subeta Mutelo officiated at the gathering while key speakers included Dr Rozious Siatwambo, Magoye aspiring Member of Parliament Nachombe Kabunda, journalist Innocent Kalaluka and entrepreneur Dr Lulu, among other notable figures.

Mako said the brunch forms part of efforts to support entrepreneurship by fostering collaboration, mentorship and business growth.
