Secure your harvest, don’t sell cheaply, Hichilema tells farmers

PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema has urged farmers across the country to jealously guard their harvest and avoid being duped by briefcase buyers offering unfair prices.

As the country enters the harvest season, the Head of State warned that some unscrupulous buyers have already started targeting farmers with low and uncompetitive offers for their produce.

In a press statement issued by State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka, President Hichilema called on farmers to take extra precautions in securing both their crops and storage facilities.

The President thanked farmers for their resilience and hard work, noting that their increased productivity continues to sustain communities and play a key role in strengthening the national economy.

President Hichilema said that protecting the harvest was not only important for individual farmers but also critical for national food security.

The Head of State added that with proper safeguarding, surplus produce could be exported, helping Zambia earn much-needed foreign exchange.

“Let us safeguard the results of your hard work so that every household, every business, and every market benefits from the produce you have worked tirelessly to grow,” the President said.

The Head of State expressed confidence that with collective effort, the country can achieve a food-secure and prosperous future.
