Malawian man steals 24 cattle from Zambian in-law after failing to locate wife

A MALAWIAN man with the hopes of rekindling his past flame with his estranged wife has abandoned peace and law-abiding ways to launch a cattle heist enterprise by stealing a herd of 24 of cattles worth K114,000 from his in-law’s house in Kamuni Village in Chasefu District.

Clever Zimba, 30, reportedly crossed into Zambia in search of his runaway wife Stafel Ng’oma, 23, on Monday around 20:00 hours.

According to sources, the wife had taken to her heels back into Zambia following marital disputes in Malawi, seeking refuge at her uncle Mateyo Zimba’s home.

On her trail, Zimba followed through but found no adult at home, just some children around the premises.

It is reported that the Children were left behind because the adults had gone out for an event called ‘Fields Day’.

Taking advantage of the situation, Zimba proceeded to open the kraal belonging to his uncle-in-law and loaded the 24 herds of cattle, carting them to Chuya Village across the Malawian border.

Moments later, the children alerted the owner of the cattle, Mateyo, who upon arrival was greeted to an empty kraal.

He later reported to Emusa Police Post.

Eastern Province Police commanding officer Robertson Mweemba confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway to recover the stolen cattle and bring the suspect to book.

“Clever Zimba took advantage of the absence of adults in the village and stole all 24 herds of cattle to Chuya Village on the Malawian side,” Mweemba said.

Police have opened a docket of theft of stock at Emusa Police Post under Lundazi Police Station and arrangements to recover the animals are ongoing, Mweemba said.
