House collapses on Chasefu family, toddler among injured

TWO people, including a two year old of Kaligwiti village in Chasefu district, are nursing injuries after their house collapsed on them while they were sleeping in the early hours of yesterday.

According to police, the house collapsed due to heavy rains that were experienced in the area.

Details of the matter are that Charity Nkhata, her husband, Abyud Nkhoma and their two year old daughter were fast asleep when the house collapsed around 05:00 hours.

Eastern Province commanding officer Robertson Mweemba said Nkhata sustained a fractured right arm, bruises on the body and general body pains, while the juvenile sustained a fractured left leg and general body pains.

Mweemba said Nkhoma escaped unhurt in the calamity.

“The matter was later reported to Lundazi Police Station where they were issued with police medical report forms and rushed to Lundazi District Hospital where they are currently admitted and receiving treatment,” Mweemba said.

He added that the victims are in stable conditions.
