FRESH from prison, former independent Lumezi Constitency lawmaker Munir Zulu has set his eyes on replacing UPND’s Mulambo Haimbe as member of parliament after the August 13 general election.
According to the 38-year old, he will not just easily win the seat but will also teach Haimbe, who is also minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, a profound political lesson.
Zulu said his decision to target the constituency was deliberate, adding that preparations for his campaign launch are already underway and that he will soon formally announce his bid.
“I will be launching my campaign for Lusaka Central in the next few days because Lumezi gave it to me,” said Zulu told Crown TV via phone, two days after being released from jail.
Zulu’s tenure as Lumwzi lawmaker was cut short after the Lusaka Magistrates Court convicted and jailed him criminal libel charge last year.
The criminal libel case that stemmed from statements he made accusing two cabinet ministers of corruption.
Now Zulu has declared political war against Haimbe, vowing to teach him a political lesson.
“I’ve never lost an election and they grabbed it from me. So now I want to go for Mulambo Haimbe and teach him politics,” he said.
Zulu was released over the weekend after completing his sentence, including an additional 90 days, and said he is confident that his return to the political arena will send a message that political power ultimately rests with the people.
Yesterday, actor, comedian and MC Henry BJ Phiri announced his intentions to contest the Lusaka Central seat as an independent candidate.
