Hungry son pours boiling beans on mother over extra nshima

A LIVINGSTONE man’s failure to be content with food given to him has landed him behind bars after he poured hot boiling beans on his mother, instantly forgetting, that it’s the woman who raised him for the past 27 years of his life.

27 year old Morris Lwanga Linda compound allegedly poured boiling beans on his own mother after she denied him bevla (extra portion of nshima) after he finished the portion allocated to him.

He now faces charges of causing grievous bodily harm to his 55-year-old mother, Alice Moto, in an incident that occurred on February 28, 2026, around 20:00 hours.

According to police, Moto was home cooking when her son arrived and demanded to be served food.

After being given nshima, he demanded more, but when she declined, he allegedly picked a pot of boiling beans and poured it on her face, neck and breasts.

The victim sustained burns covering about 65 percent of the affected areas and lost consciousness.

Neighbours rushed her to Livingstone University Teaching Hospital, where she is undergoing treatment, with police officers later visiting the hospital and confirming the injuries.

Southern Province Police commanding officer Moono Namalongo has confirmed the incident.

“The suspect was apprehended and is in custody at Linda Police Station,” Namalongo said.

The added that a docket of causing grievous bodily harm has been opened and the suspect will appear in court soon.
