Addressing an Anti-Corruption Conference yesterday, President Hichilema said social media had become such a menace that individuals often come across false stories about themselves, leaving them shocked.
He said with the advent of Artificial Intelligence (AI), anything can now be manipulated to appear real.
“Some of us read stories about us, we are even surprised ourselves, we, who are being written about. Really? Is that possible? Really?” he wondered.
“This is not a Zambia problem, it’s a global problem. We must cooperate on how to fight misinformation.”
On corruption, the President said the vice did not only exist in the public sector but had also taken root in the private sector.
He said his administration was also committed to steering the country away from consumption expenditure and towards investment expenditure.
“When you drive citizens into handouts, they complain when things change because they get used to tantameni. There’s a bit of education required,” said the Head of State.
