According to Eastern province commanding officer Robertson Mweemba revealed that the incident occurred yesterday around 12:00 hours and was reported to the authorities at Mugubudu Police Station at 13:40 hours.

The boys’ mother, Helllen Moyo aged 30 reported the incident to police.

The police commissioner said the teenager, Isaki Mwale was going about his early morning routine of herding cattle when around 11:30 hours while in the company of other herders paused at Musandile stream for a quick rest.

“Some moments after they got to the stream, they noticed alarming screams only to find that Isaki’s young brother, Peter Mwale aged 12 was desperately screaming for help after he slipped into the stream,” Mweemba said.

He added that, immediately Isaki realised it was his brother that was screaming for help he ran into the stream as quickly as he could in a desperate quest to save his life.

Unfortunately they both got overpowered and lost their lives in the incident.

Their bodies were later retrieved out of the stream by the villagers.

Mweemba said a thorough inspection done on the bodies has revealed that the two deceased boys did not suffer any physical injuries and that their bodies have since been surrendered to the family for burial.
