YOUTHS of Lusaka’s Chawama compound who are keen followers of a named boastful Zambian facebook betting promotor last evening failed to stomach the loss of their five kwachas as their betting tickets on the night’s nine UEFA Champions League games went up in smoke.
In the ensuing debacle, riots punctuated by allegations of match fixing filled the usually silent dark nights of the orphaned Chawama Constituency whose lawmaker is still playing the long game of Baby Girl Malukula.
What started as an optimistic night of footballing spectacle among the ‘Kabechas’ quickly turned into sour lemons as giants like Manchester City and Barcelona were humiliated in defeat.
In the mayhem, Chawama’s Chifundo Road at Snow White area, among others, was blocked with big rocks and other missiles in protest over the failure by goal poacher Erling Haaland to secure victory for Man City, just as his Barcelona counterpart Lamine Yamal huffed and puffed to a humiliating loss.
Unable to stomach reality, the youths turned riotus and threw stones and other missiles onto roads claiming the Champions League had been rigged by betting houses.
Meanwhile, calm only returned when irate residents suspended their nocturnal gymnastics and confronted the youths to explain why the community should not suffer over Yamal having two left feet.
