State to compesate 13 year old Lusaka girl hit by ZNS truck with K5 million

THE State has agreed to compensate a 13 year old Lusaka girl who lost her leg after being hit by a Zambia National Service (ZNS) truck as she crossed the road near her school.

Attorney General Mulilo Kabesha entered a consent judgment before High Court Judge Situmbeko Chocho, offering long-awaited relief to the family of the teenager whose life changed drastically on February 2, 2025.

Her father, Thomas Siwila, sued on her behalf, seeking K5 million in damages.

According to the claim, the ZNS vehicle, driven by Warrant Officer Chipemba Kasweshi, allegedly sped through a pedestrian crossing and struck the girl as she crossed in front of City of Hope School on the Linda–Balmoral road in Makeni.

Court filings outline the severity of her injuries woth an exposed and fractured femur, a deep wound above the knee and complete loss of blood flow to the lower leg.

Doctors at Maina Soko Military Hospital amputated her right leg in order to save her life.

The consent judgment confirms liability, paving the way for an assessment of damages, including medical costs, emotional trauma, long-term rehabilitation and other losses the family continues to bear.
