PF aspiring presidential candidate Brian Mundubile says he has never seen President Hakainde Hichilema in person and the only day he will meet him is during his inauguration next year at the National Heroes stadium, where he will collect the instrument of power from President Hichilema.
Speaking at the PF Secretariat while meeting his supporters yesterday, Mundubile said he has never even had a phone conversation with the Head of State.
He claimed that he also has no idea where the President stays.
“I have never met President Hichilema, not even a day and I don’t even know where he stays. Not a phone call, I don’t even have his number. I have never sent anyone to speak to him on my behalf,” Mundubile told his sympathizers.
“The only day I will meet President Hichilema is next year when he will be handing over power to me at Heroes stadium.”
The Mporokoso lawmaker went against the PF legitimate president Robert Chabinga’s directive and held a meeting at the secretariat a few hours after he filed a court injunction halting all activities at the PF Secretariat by rival party factions.
Mundubile, who previously served as Northern Province Minister under former President Edgar Lungu, is among several candidates vying for the PF presidency and has already paid the K200,000 participation fee for the upcoming party convention.
Speaking at the same event, former PF secretary general Davies Mwila expressed his support for Mundubile, saying he is the right man to lead the party.
Mwila dismissed claims that the late Edgar Lungu had endorsed any candidate before his death.
“Before Edgar Lungu died, he was supposed to anoint a candidate but he did not anoint anyone till his death. No one should lie to you that Edgar Lungu endorsed them. Mundubile has the numbers,” Mwila said.
The PF has been engulfed in leadership disputes since losing power in 2021, with rival factions often claiming authority and organizing meetings without proper mandate.
