NO political cause is worth bloodshed, and peace must always take precedence, says Kanchibiya Member of Parliament Sunday Chanda, as he condemned the violent scenes that unfolded in Chingola on Saturday.

Chanda described the incident where a police vehicle and a presidential tent were set ablaze, as a shameful assault to Zambia’s democracy and a betrayal of the country’s peaceful values.

He stressed that those behind the violence must face the full force of the law.

“Violence is not an instrument of politics; it’s an affront to the rule of law and to the dignity of our nation,” Chanda said.

He called for a transparent investigation into the incident and urged authorities to review security measures to better protect both public officials and citizens without undermining freedom of expression.

The lawmaker further appealed to political parties, traditional leaders and civic groups to speak with ond voice against violence and guide the youth toward dialogue and discipline.

“Protecting the life of the Head of State isn’t about partisanship, it’s about defending the institutions and values that bind us as Zambians,” he emphasised.

Chanda further urged citizens to reject hatred and division, saying peace, respect and dialogue must remain the foundation upon which Zambia’s democracy stands.
