You don’t stone a President – GODAZA

GOVERNANCE and Development Advocates Zambia (GODAZA) has condemned the violent conduct of some youths in Chingola yesterday, who threw stones during President Hakainde Hichilema’s visit to the Copperbelt, describing the act as a direct assault on Zambia’s peace and unity.

GODAZA executive director Elias Mulenga said the incident was both shameful and unpatriotic.

Mulenga warned that such actions tarnish the country’s hard earned reputation as a peaceful nation.

“You don’t stone a nation’s peace. The Presidency symbolises the unity and dignity of every Zambian. Disrespecting that office is disrespecting ourselves,” Mulenga said.

He added that the behavior witnessed in Chingola was alien to Zambia’s democratic culture and must not be tolerated, regardless of political differences.

Mulenga has since called on the Zambia Police Service and other security wings to conduct thorough investigations and ensure that those responsible are brought to book to serve as a deterrent.

He also urged young people to channel their energy towards constructive civic participation and national development instead of engaging in acts that endanger public order.

“Peaceful expression is a right, but violence has never been a solution. Our democracy thrives on dialogue, not disorder,” he emphasised.

“Zambia’s peace is our greatest national asset — let’s protect it, not destroy it.”
