As the Head of State was addressing residents, chaos broke out which saw the Head of State’s holding tent and portrait burned, with his motorcade also getting stoned.

Police said the unrest also spread to nearby areas, damaging property and causing panic among residents.

State House communication specialist Clayson Hamasaka commended the security forces for not opening their fire against the crowd.

He said any attacks or attempts to intimidate President Hichilema will not be tolerated, adding that the brutal assaults the first family once suffered while in opposition must never occur again.

Hamasaka recalled the violence targeted the President and his family saying that attempts to continue such abuse now that President Hichilema holds the highest office must not be entertained.

“These are the last sad kicks of a dying horse. Zambians will not permit it,” Hamasaka stated.

He also explained that President Hichilema personally insisted on visiting residents of Chiwempala who had lost their livelihoods, despite the visit not being on the original schedule.

“We will not sit idly by, there shall be law and order, but peace is what we voted for and peace is what this President has delivered,” Hamasaka stated.
