Hichilema’s journey of service honored with Man of the Year 2025 crown

FROM herding cattle in the fields of Southern Province to steering the nation toward economic renewal, President Hakainde Hichilema’s journey of grit, service and leadership has earned him one of the country’s highest tributes, being crowned the Man of the Year-2025.

The President received the Lifetime Achievement Award yesterday, when he officiated at the Zambia Man of the Year Awards in Lusaka, in recognition of his outstanding contribution to leadership, peace and national development.

The moment was met with thunderous applause as President Hichilema stood to accept the accolade, dedicating it to the collective spirit of the Zambian people.

“These awards reflect our shared vision, hard work, and national unity to take us where we want to be as a country. I accept this award on behalf of my family and on behalf of all Zambians,” he said:

He then took a reflective tone, recalling how his rural upbringing taught him discipline, perseverance and service.

“The only business we knew was rearing cattle. Those experiences shaped my resolve to serve,” he recalled.

Turning to today’s social landscape, President Hichilema called for a renewed balance in how society celebrates success, saying men too, deserve recognition for their contribution to family, community and the nation.

“In today’s season, we actually honour women all the time, making men feel unwelcome in society. We must restore balance, celebrate both men and women who build our country together,” he noted.

He also praised the rising wave of young people taking on leadership roles, calling it a chance revolution that must be supported with guidance and opportunity.

The Zambian Man of the Year Awards, founded by broadcaster Chanda Kangwa, began as a simple ‘Man of the Week’ radio feature but had grown into national movement celebrating integrity, discipline and service.

“This event is more than a ceremony; it’s a movement to honour men who lead with purpose and character,” Kangwa added.

“President Hichilema’s journey continues to inspire young Zambians, showing that with perseverance and a spirit of service, even the toughest challenges can be overcome.”
