WITH only about a month to go until the next Africa Cup of Nations (AfCON), all eyes are looking to Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to quicken their steps and select an adequate coach for the Chipolopolo Boys following the Avram Grant ‘divorce’.
FAZ referred the appointment of a new Chipolopolo head coach to its Technical Committee, following a weekend Executive Committee (EXCO) meeting held in Lusaka.
“FAZ has considered the urgency of the matter and will ensure that due diligence is done in filling the vacancy left by Coach Avram Grant,” a statement by FAZ head of media and communications Nkweto Tembwe read.
“FAZ has considered the urgency of the matter and will ensure that due diligence is done in filling the vacancy left by Coach Avram Grant.”
Grant, had his contract terminated four days ago after disappointing results from Zambia which saw the team fall short again in qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Meanwhile, FAZ EXCO also used the occasion to reveal December 3, 2025, as the date for the deferred Annual General Meeting (AGM), which had been postponed earlier in the year amid logistical challenges.
Shepande said the EXCO had decided that the deferred AGM would be held in the first week of December with FAZ engaging all the stakeholders to address pending provincial elections.
“The deferred electoral process in Northern and North Western Provinces to fill the positions that were frozen out will take place before the re-convened AGM,” Shepande said.
In addition, the executive committee also approved a 10-year strategic plan aimed at guiding football development in Zambia and ratified the appointment of Iva Lengwe as deputy general secretary.
Shepande clarified that FAZ judicial bodies will remain functional until the deferred AGM either dissolves or ratifies new members for the next cycle.
