Matambo uses public bus to interact with citizens

COPPERBELT Province minister Elisha Matambo yesterday ditched the comfort of his air conned official vehicle and boarded a Rosa minibus from Ndola to Kitwe to interact with ordinary citizens and understand their daily struggles.

Matambo, who shared the experience on his Facebook page, said he took the trip in an incognito manner just as any other ordinary citizen.

“This afternoon, we rode on a public transport Rosa Mini Bus from Ndola to Kitwe in an incognito manner to appreciate and interact with our citizens using our public transport services,” he wrote.

A video shared on his platform shows the minister hiking a bus and quietly boarding as he went unnoticed by passengers.

Matambo is seen taking a single seat and seconds later, answers a phone call and blends in like any other commuter.

However, at the end of his trip, the minister waved goodbye to all passengers and revealed his identity.

“Mwebantu mwende bwino, mwachinina naba minister benu aba Copperbelt, balefwaya ukumfwa abantu efyobekele (travel safely, you were traveling with the Copperbelt minister who wanted to appreciate your challenges),” he said.

“Twatotela mukwai (thank you so much),” said the commuters.

Majority of the minister’s Facebook followers praised him for what many described as a humble and practical gesture with some calling him one of the most hardworking ministers in the country.
