ECONOMIC and Equity Party (EEP) president Chilufya Tayali has expressed disappointment with some irresponsible leaders celebrating or wishing for chaos like the ongoing riots in Tanzania, simply because they believe it could fast-track their path to power.
Tayali described such thoughts as not just dangerous but also irresponsible, stating that no leader should desire power through bloodshed and violence.
The EEP leader said Zambia has worked hard to uphold peace since independence and it would be wrong to destroy that due to selfish political ambitions.
“I am disappointed to note that the recent riots in Tanzania have sparked excitement among some individuals, with a few even wishing for similar chaos in Zambia,” Tayali stated.
The self proclaimed public lawyer of the public further warned political players against using young people as tools for violence or riots as a way of getting into power ahead of the 2026 general elections.
He also urged youths not to allow themselves to be used by politicians who only want to achieve their personal interests.
According to him, history has clearly shown that riots rarely bring the change that people hope for.
