ZAMBIAN rapper and songwriter Ephriam Kasonde, alias Dizmo believes his relentless work ethic and storytelling are setting the tone for a new generation of rappers in the country.
Dizmo said he releases music frequently to stay relevant and keep fans engaged.
During an appearance on Diamond TV programme dubbed ‘on the table,’ he explained that consistency is part of his creative DNA and it keeps him sharp, relevant, and in touch with his audience.
“I don’t want people to forget my sound and that’s why I keep dropping. Every release adds to my story, and my story connects with the streets,” he said.
He noted that many young rappers have started to adopt his flow and delivery, something he views as a compliment rather than competition.
“A lot of the guys coming up are starting to sound like me. Even on songs I feature on, you can hear a bit of my energy in their verses. It means what I’m doing is reaching people, it’s inspiring them.”
“For me, music isn’t just about fame but about expressing real life. I want to be remembered for saying something meaningful, not just making noise,” he said.
He added that competition in the Zambian rap scene pushes him to work harder and stay original, while still showing respect to those who paved the way.
Dizmo further added that criticism aimed at him and his wife doesn’t bother him.
According to him, when people talk about one, it often shows they care and want the best for that person.
“There will always be some who genuinely care, and others who are just hating. It’s up to us to manage our minds and decide how we let it affect us,” he explained.
