GOVERNMENT has opened the development floodgates with a fresh K602 million Constituency Development Fund (CDF) release to all 156 constituencies across the country.
The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development announced that the money, released in the past seven days, translates into an average of K4 million for every constituency, money that is expected to directly touch the lives of ordinary Zambians.
This latest injection brings the total CDF disbursed so far in 2025 to over K3.07 billion.
Local Government and Rural Development Ministry Permanent Secretary for administration, Gabriel Pollen, said the disbursement was not just figures on paper but a tool changing lives in villages, compounds and townships.
Dr Pollen explained that the Fund is financing the building of schools, health centres, water systems and feeder roads, alongside empowerment loans and bursaries for learners who would otherwise drop out of school.
“We are elated to note that a number of developmental projects have already been completed, while others are underway across the country,” Dr Pollen said yesterday during a press briefing.
According to the ministry, the CDF is also helping councils procure earthmoving machines and other vital equipment to improve service delivery, while creating opportunities for small-scale entrepreneurs through loans and grants.
Dr Pollen further urged communities to continue taking ownership of the projects, ensuring the money answers to their real needs.
The Ministry has assured that accountability and transparency will remain cornerstones of the programme, with citizens urged to monitor how their constituencies are spending the allocations.
