These machines, sourced from global medical technology giant (Siemens), are part of a massive expansion project that is now 80 percent complete.

They are expected to revolutionise cancer diagnosis and treatment, drastically reducing the need for patients to travel abroad for specialised care.

According to the Ministry of Health principal public relations officer Georgia Chimombo, Minister Elijah Muchima, described the arrival of the new equipment as a sign of real progress.

Meanwhile, Chimombo said the planned expansion of the Cancer Diseases Hospital is a crucial piece of government’s wider agenda for healthcare reform in the country.

She stated that this expansion aligns with government’s vision to bolster specialist care, reduce the prevalence of non-communicable diseases and guarantee that Zambians have access to high quality medical treatment without the need to travel abroad.

Chimombo highlighted the hospital’s prestigious reputation, stating that it has already established itself as a ‘center of excellence for oncology’ not only in Zambia but also the neighbouring countries.

She added that by expanding the hospital’s facilities and investing in advanced medical equipment, the hospital will be able to treat more complex cases, deliver more accurate treatments and enhance cancer research.
