A 31-year- old man of Lusaka has been dragged to court for lacing scones with marijuana.
Frank Kandula, of Ibex Meanwood was nabbed by Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) for his criminal baking innovation, after they discovered he was baking and selling scones with drugs.
Kandula was found with 33 scones laced with marijuana on June 3, 2025.
It is alleged that he could sale the scones to different places, especially to known friends in bars, night clubs around Lusaka.
Kandula appeared at the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court before resident magistrate, Mutinta Mwenya and pleaded not guilty to the charge.
Kandula is facing one count of trafficking in psychotropic substances contrary to section 15 (1)(2) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act No. 35 of 2021 as read with Statutory Instrument No. 119 of 1995 of the Laws of Zambia.
Allegations are that Kandula on the fateful day, trafficked in psychotropic substances namely 800 grams of marijuana, a herbal product of cannabis without lawful authority in Lusaka.
According to court documents, Kandula is not a first offender, he was charged and arrested in 2022 for the same offence when he was caught with 74 pancakes.
After his first conviction, he was slapped with a 12 months suspended sentence.
For this current offence, the court adjourned the matter to August 22, 2025 for trial.
